 The
conference dedicated to the outstanding representative of the XX century
Azerbaijan literature. People's writer, State award laureate Ilyas Afandiyev's
memory was held at the meeting-hall of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
The Conference held by ANAS Institute of Literature named after Nizami and Ilyas
Afandiyev Literaty Charity Foundation was declared open with the speech of
the director of the Institute. Then Dr. of art-critic Maryam Elizadeh's report
"Ilyas Afandiyevphenomen and time at Azerbaijan Theatre", Dr.of philology
Meherrem Gasimli's "The folk-love in Ilyas Afandiyev's literary career",
Candidate of philology science Shirindil Alishanli's "Ilyas Afandiyev's role in
the development of Azerbaijan literary opinions", candidate of philology science
Vefa Kanoglan's "Ilyas Afandiyev's literary-criticism", and candidate of
philology science Asif Rustemli's "The activity and perspectives of Ilyas
Afandiyev Literary Charity Foundation" were listened, and the chairman of
Writers' Union people's writer Anar, People's poet, NA Deputy Sabir
Rustemkhanli, People's artist Amalia Penahova, delivered speeches. In reports
and speeches it's stressed that Ilyas Afandiyev is one of the famous
representatives of our literature for the popularity, longevity, literary -
aesthetic significance of his literary career.  The
active attitude towards the moral duty on nation, motherland, society, humanity
defines the inner worlds of his heroes. The development and great achievements
of lyric-psycological style in our literary-public opinion history are directly
connected with Ilyas Afandiyev's name and works most of all. The speakers
stressing Ilyas Afandiyev's particular place among the writers who firstly
noticed the changes in life since 50-60-s of the XX century and depicted a new
man, his composite inner world, joys and cares, sorrows and tragedies in a
specific way, stated that the vulgar, sosiologism manifestations in the soviet
period made the attention definitely far from the deep psycological analysis of
man's morality. At that time in Ilyas Afandiyev's stories, tales, novels and
plays appeared new, sincere, principal, brave characters of the heroes created
on the base of real vital conflicts. When our national leader Heydar Aliyev
congratulated the great word-master on his 80 years anniversary, he said: "In
ancient Land of Fires, having endowed eternal geniuses to the world culture,
getting people's love and rising to the top of society is rather difficult, but
honourable. You've achieved this honour for your selfless creative labour.  The characters you've created served as teaching our descendants moral
purity and patriotism. I'm sure that so many future generations of independent
Azerbaijan will make use of this rich great source. The artisan who came to our
literature with his book of stories "Letters from the Village" ("Kendden gelmish
mektublar") takes one of the glorious place in the history of our drama. Along
with it, he got fame as a mature novelist since the middle of last century. The
hero of his novels depicting the reality of its Time, the broad life pictures -
"Willow Channel" ("Soyudlu Arkh"); "Bridgebuilders" ("Korpusalanlar"); "Tale of
Sarikoynek and Valeh" ("Sarikoynekle Valehin nagili") have been engraved in
memories for lofty aims, bellicosity, completeness of their characters,
simplicity of the feelings and senses they've lived not depending on their ages,
life experiences, and jobs. These features are also typical for the novels "Gun"
("Uchatilan"), "Don't look back, the old man" ("Geriye bakma, qoja") picturing
our past life, the characteristic features of our history. The topic of Garabagh
was leading in his literary career. As our famous literary critic Yashar Garayev
says: "There are 7 "Garabaghname"s in our literature history, and the 8 th
"Garabaghname" is Ilyas Efendiyev's works. He was living vestlessly the
treacheries, aggressive actions of mean neighbours beginning at 90's of last
century. In Ilyas Afandiyev's both prose and dram work, which were written in a
sweet way, the feature of winning the readers' and spectators' souls with the
first depictions and dialogues was especially stressed. It was notified that the
poetry rhythm in one of the carlier plays "Bahar sulari" ("Spring waters") was
highly appreciated by national poet Samed Vurgun.  This
feature had become one of the defining factors of the writer's individual
writing style. Ilyas Afandiyev has an honourable place in the XX century
Azerbaijan literature as the word-master who has brought vital conflicts, live
characters, bright and new literary descriptive devices to our poetry, who has
made new lyric-psycological style universally accepted in our drama, and
finally, who has founded "Ilyas Afandiyev Theatre", where the whole generation
of actors and producer have grown and got matured. All the plays of the writer
have been staged in the Academic National Dram Theatre, and even some of them
have been performed 450, 700, 1000 times. The Theatre has opened all its seasons
with the "The lord and his daughter" ("Hokmdar ve gizi") perfomance. The son of
the writer, people's writer Elchin in his speech stressed gratefully the
publications of writer's "Selected works" ("Sechilmish eserliri") with the
decree of our national leader Heydar Aliyev, and 3 volumed works with the decree
of the Azerbaijan Prezident Ilham Aliyev, and mentioned that his works have been
published in the Russian, Turkish and other foreign languages many times, and
the monographs, theses for a Doctor's degree and for candidate of science have
been writen on his literary career recently. He also informed that the shooting
of the film of 2 parts on his play "The Lord and his daughter" ("Hokmdar ve
gizi") due to the Prezident's decree will be completed soon. Then the
conference-participants coming to the Honorary Avenue (Fekhri Xiyaban),
remembered his memory and put fresh flowers on his grave.

Ilyas Efendiyev was a closed man to Azerbaijan, within Azerbaijan to Garabagh, within Garabagh to Fuzuli, to his own generation with deep feelings and his from time to time memories about childhood, the richness of ethnographic details in those memories, the profouness of the observations, his respect for the people who've passed away long before, the moral values of those days, the skilfullness of giving characters of the people around him, the coloring of childhood with three sentences influenced the man so that you have travelled his sweet childhood period together with him, having broken all the time laws.
