The famous representative of the modern Azerbaijan literature, national writer, Republic State award Laureate, the first artisan honoured with «Shohret» (Honour) order, the outstanding writer and talanted dramatist Ilyas Efendiyev (1914-1996) dedicated 60 years of his glorious life to creating brilliant literary works. The writer, who came to the literature at the end of 30's having tried his pen in all genres of the word of art, and writing articles, sketches, stories, novels scenarios, plays, earned fame as one the of notable representatives of the XX century Azerbaijan culture.

Cildhood and youth

Ilyas Mehemmed oglu Efendiyev was born in a famous and respectable merchant family in Garyagin (now Fuzuli city) on may 28, 1914. His father – Mehemmed kishi, who came from the family of a well-educated clergyman by descent and a rich merchant, was born in 1884. His forefathers were popular in the whole Garabag, supporting poor, kind and noble men. One branch of this family-tree, belonged to the merchant generation, was engaged in commerce.
